So early yesterday morning, I got the call I was hoping for - the apartment I had wanted was approved - and I can move in this month... with July being free rent!

It's on the second floor of a high-rise, and outside my window is a landing/roof for the physiotherapy clinic below.

I excitedly took some cleaning supplies and got started on the new place.  Being Canada Day, I chatted away with friends and family, sharing my good news.

Carolyn called around 11:30am, and we were chatting about the apartment, when we both heard "THUD."

I saw something flying in the air and land and said "someone threw something from their balcony, let me check and see what it is.

I said um... Carolyn...What was it? )</div>

Take a picture of yourself right now.
Don't change your clothes, don't fix your hair...just take a picture.
Post that picture with NO editing.
Post these instructions with your picture.

Mum noticed I haven't updated in a while, and so here we go.

I intend to share details of my holidays and goings-on soon, but I wanted to post a few good things that seem to occupy my time.

One day, through a friend of a friend's list, I found a lady in South Africa with a really funny blog... she is G&D and has 2 G&D children and much to share with the world,  Check out Tertia and her journey to where she is now at So Close.

YouTube continues to amaze and amuse me.  Here are some recent gems:

- Acoustic guitar:  Madonna what? Paula Abdul what?  Usher yeah!

And last, but not least - wait until the end and you'll know why I loved this Fruitcake Lady compilation, may she rest in peace.

Ok, home from one job, now off to the other... tomorrow is church and laundry, so I will make a real update.

I have had a bad cough/cold for a week, and it's not going away... I guess this article might explain why... thanks, Winnipeg :p

2007 begins with a cough in Winnipeg

Last Updated: Wednesday, January 3, 2007 | 1:43 PM CT

The new year has come bearing flu-like viruses for many Winnipeggers, including the gut-wrenching norovirus and some cough-inducing para-influenza viruses.

The good news is that influenza itself has not come to the province yet.

Dr. Pierre Plourde, the medical officer of health for the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority, said Wednesday that the norovirus, a gastro-intestinal virus that causes vomiting and diarrhea, has hit a number of local health-care facilities.

"We've had over 20 personal care homes with outbreaks [and] three, four hospitals now with outbreaks. There's a lot of that so-called stomach flu or norovirus infection that's going around," Plourde said.

Plourde said a number of people have also been hit with "para-influenza" viruses that are milder than the influenza virus.

"The long and short of it is they're influenza-like viruses. They don't cause as severe an illness, but they can certainly put you down with fever and coughing," he said.

"That coughing, the post-influenza reactive airway which you can get … can last for several weeks, and I know it has in some individuals."

But Plourde stressed that no cases of influenza have been confirmed in Manitoba since this year's flu season started.

"Influenza is in B.C., it's in Alberta, even in Saskatchewan and Ontario. It's not yet been seen in Manitoba," he said. "It's on its way, but it's not here yet."

According to the latest statistics from the Public Health Agency of Canada, 543 influenza A cases were reported across the country from Aug. 27 to Dec. 23, 2006. About 70 per cent of those cases came from Alberta, while nearly 20 per cent were in Ontario.

As for proper coughing etiquette, Plourde recommended people do so on the sleeve in the crook of the arm, not into their hands.

He stressed that the best protection against any infection is frequent hand-washing.

Find an entry for each month that helps descibe your year.  It can be from any date,  one for each month.

JANUARY - I think Kate and Brett are coming over for hot turkey sandwiches tomorrow afternoon.  Happy New Year!

FEBRUARY - You know you're sick in the head... When you're overjoyed that a Bureau En Gros (Office Depot) is opening two blocks away.

MARCH - 25 great things  1.  I had a fantastic (birthday) gathering at Cafe Republique on Saturday.  I got wine and chocolates and perfume and jewelry and gift cards (I bought a book and the Big Business DVD) and much more.  My friends here in Montreal are fab!

APRIL - I enjoy the routine things in life like watching Grey's Anatomy and sharing commentary over MSN with[info]lisagarbage, and talking to the boy after work, and random phone calls from [info]polythpam.  Despite mini-life drama, life is good.

MAY - Crackers and kleenex in my pockets... I have been taking care of Aidan for about a year now.  A year in the life of a baby is huge.  He's almost two, and I am amazed by seeing him turn into a little person.

JUNE - Yeah, so I've been busy.
       In the past few weeks:

- I've been working 3+ jobs (mai shifts because of the Montreal Fringe Festival)
- I moved into Andrea's for 16 days to house and dog sit (fantastic)
- the boy visited (awesome)
- umm, and I've been busy

JULY - I will keep swimming as often as I can, because I love love love it and I'm paying for it in my rent.

AUGUST - Home for a rest... So after work today, I head to the airport and HOME to Stellarton for my first vacation more than 5 days since... I moved here three years ago.

SEPTEMBER - All Sunshine and Lollipops and Lattes... Until your computer makes a funny groan and dies.  Yeah - this weekend, my hard drive died.  Bye bye a huge expense report, bye bye photos, bye bye music, bye bye lots of stuff.

OCTOBER - My friend Kiley is visiting tomorrow on her way to Hali, and I am not finished cleaning the apartment for guestitude.  And we're babysitting tomorrow night.  I'm cool like that.

NOVEMBER - November 17 1987 - November 13 2006  My beloved cat used up her 9 lives card.
Yesterday, after a few days of non-stop crying - it became obvious to Mum & Dad that Miss Puss was not responding to her antibiotics.  Mum took her to the veternarian's office, and they decided to let her go in peace.

DECEMBER - No relevant entry!

Well well, after not having any plans for Canadian Thanksgiving, it looks like this Thursday, I will be thankful and celebrating American Thanksgiving at Andrea's!  She's having some American friends and some others over, and invited me to come and enjoy as well.

Of course, I will be bringing my amazing Garlic Rosemary Parmesan Sweet Potatoes.

Yay Thanksgiving on Thursday after work!

There's been a lot going on lately - lots of work, lots of future planning, lots of decisions.  I made one Sunday...

And don't ask me about my cat, I'll cry.  For serious.  Poor Miss Puss is not any better :(

PS: I think my eyebrows are finally fixed after a bad trip to the salon last year

I spent many many hours and days over several years with the Pictou District Honour Choir - here's a video of them from 2005... they have the NS Tartan Vests that we had made for NYC... in 1995.

I am old.

Edit: the soloist's mother was my Junoir Choir Director at First Presbyterian, where I sang "As The Deer" and "This Little Light of Mine" among other hits with [info]lisagarbage and [info]polythpam
:)

I don't mean to complain, but I will.

Today, I decided to take the metro instead of my usual #24 bus. The ride was smooth, the switch from the orange line to the green was seamless at Lionel Groulx. The stops were pretty fast.

I got off at McGill Metro, and headed up the escallator. In front of me were two ladies, talking to each other - standing beside each other. Knowing better, I was over to the left side of my step.

All of a sudden, some girl with a GIANT purse slams into me in her attempt to get past the ladies in front of me... I loose my balance as her purse whops me, and I fall forward. I manage to yell "you could at least say excuse me!"

I thought I was ok - new boots, check. $8 silks pantyhose - check. Hand... bleeding.

Now it's not a bad cut, but it's a not nice one-inch length-wise slice to the left on the bottom part of my right hand, just above the wrist. It onbly hurts when I touch it, which is ALL DAY when I am using my mouse at work.

At least I got my tetanus shot this summer... when I fell into the hole for my pool's filter... that one was... well, my fault.
